WHO WE ARE - Established in 1919, the Black Mountain Fire Department is located in Western North Carolina. A combination paid and volunteer organization, we man two fire stations with another unmanned station in the Laurel Ridge Community.. We have 18 paid firefighters 12 part time paid, and 45 volunteers at the present time. The department has achieved a Class 4 rating for the town’s fire protection. We provide fire suppression and prevention, rescue, confined space and search services to the community. We protect some 27 square miles which include two fire districts, the Town of Black Mountain and the East Buncombe Fire District, as well as the Town of Montreat.  Several large manufacturing facilities, conference centers and state facilities are within our protection areas as well as Interstate 40 and a major railroad line.

OUR MISSION
- The mission
of the Black Mountain Fire Department is to save lives and protect property of the district we serve, when called upon by our neighbors. We are committed to providing our citizens the best possible service in a courteous, professional and cost-effective manner, to assure that every person who contacts the fire department receives satisfaction to the best of our ability. We will achieve this through continuous education, training, code enforcement, and community involvement, while maintaining the safest working environment possible.
